A pleasant stroll from Braithwaite, initially climbing the lower slopes of Barrow to enjoy outstanding views of the hidden gem that is the Newlands Valley. After a short descent into the valley along a quiet country lane and then over farmland to the tiny hamlet of Stair, the walk returns along the banks of Newlands Beck.

May 2021 - the bridge at Stair (waypoint 8) is fully open, but once again the footpath along the beck (from 9 to 10) is closed due to erosion. We, kept to the road at waypoint 9 to Swinside where there is a great pub with wonderful views from the garden. The lane from the pub was lovely and quiet and led us back to waypoint 10. In fact, if the lovely beck path is open the next time we visit, we'll visit the pub before returning to waypoint 9 !

We have today started this walk but the bridge at Stair (point 8) is closed to both cars and pedestrians as unsafe and it looks like it is likely to stay closed for some time. We continued to cross the river further towards Swinside but could not get back to walk along the beck. We still had a nice walk into Braithwaite, just not the one envisaged.

A delightful walk. The path beside the beck on the return section is now fully open and very well maintained. The river bank has been extensively restored in places.

A lovely walk, quite easy but still giving the Lake District views we all love for little effort. A few of the directions need updating as things have changed on the ground. WW advised. The riverside section was quite flooded (due to heavy rain) so boots are advised at most times of the year on this walk. Walked 13.08.08. 9/10.
