This walk is an ideal all-weather walk, being set almost entirely on well-surfaced, quiet country lanes with the exception of a short field path. The walk starts from the outskirts of the charming little village of Brancepeth and then travels around three delightful quiet country lanes. As you travel around the lanes there are constant views over both arable and pastureland as well as woodland and on the higher section of the walk, fine views over the Deerness Valley to the north and beyond.
At the end of your walk I would highly recommend you visit the 12th Century St Brandon's Church, set in the grounds of Brancepeth Castle, either by walking or driving the 560 yards or so to the castle gates. If driving, please park on the right-hand side of the street away from the cottages, so as not to cause annoyance to residents, while the castle is private and does not allow entry. You are allowed to walk around its outside and are free to visit the Church of St Brandon's.
