The walk is based on the village of Brinscall, where there is a swimming-pool with car park, a fish and chip shop and a friendly café, all near the start of the walk. You begin by entering the park, which is on the site of a disused railway and has some newly created ponds. After going through cuttings the path continues on the railway line, but now in a designated nature reserve. This brings you to the edge of Abbey Village, where an about turn picks up a footpath parallel to the railway line, which is in a cutting below. Easily followed paths bring you to Brinscall Primary School on the northern edge of the village. A left turn down the main street leads back to the start.
