This walk starts at Lymefield Visitor Centre in Broadbottom. From the visitor centre you walk down and into Broad Mills Heritage Site where there are industrial sites with notice-boards. The walk continues alongside the River Etherow before entering two areas of woodland. Passing through the second section of woodland you walk alongside and above a brook to reach a road. After crossing the road the walk continues across fields and a rural road to reach the edge of Mottram in Longdendale. The return leg drops down to enter another small wood to reach a farm. Continuing past the farm the route follows a path across fields to reach some more farms. The final leg follows a country lane back to the village before returning to the start point.

Varied and pleasant afternoon walk However, we do not recommend at the moment because very muddy in places, at 22 unable to cross field and had to create our own diversion.

Enjoyed this walk, although I did get a bit lost between mark 4-6. Probably my fault as the directions were good. It was a lovely crisp winters day with blue skys, perfect for a walk, but it got a bit muddy in parts. Be ware of horses though in the field after passing through the farm. I had 4 horse gallop to me & my dog which was very scary, I just stood still until the lost interest, then slowly moved on. ?? All in all one I would recommend. HAPPY WALKING

Walked October 2021. Enjoyable walk through relatively flat woodland and open countryside taking in some very interesting industrial remains; highlight for us being the dye vats between WP's 4 & 5. Sections of the walk can be muddy! NAVIGATION: no issues (very detailed walking guide) but you will need to keep on eye on the various directions between WP's 5 & 16 as you navigate the woods. Make sure you pick the right stile at WP30 which is well described/photographed in the guide. NOTE - the cafe at the Lymefield Garden Centre is very good but can get very busy at lunchtimes. You can book a table in advance. There is also a good farm shop next to the cafe. PARKING - small car park (only 4 spaces + disabled bay).
