This is a pleasant walk starting from the church and village hall car park in Broadchalke. Behind the Queen's Head Public House runs a footpath which passes through the garden of a cottage (dogs on leads please). Once away from the cottage you start a slow climb up to the downs. Upon reaching the concrete road be mindful with your dogs - this farm runs a commercial shoot and you will get no thanks for disturbing the game, particularly if you are walking in the shooting season. After reaching the old Salisbury to Shaftesbury Roman road, called Shaston Drove, it is interesting to note the position of an old coaching inn on the corner; only a few odd bits of building rubble remain now. When walking back towards Broadchalke down a gravel road known as Long Hedge, there are two areas open to the public; please observe the maps on the fenceposts. If you wish to extend your walk, these areas are well worth visiting. Pass through Chalk Pyt Farm and down the road to retrace your steps to the car park.
