Our walk begins at the pleasant bay of Broadsands, where the sea is inviting and safe for paddling or bathing, before continuing around the coast to a second bay, with its beach and ancient bathing station. After looking round this old monument, we follow the path through mostly beech-tree woodland for about 1.5 kilometres before arriving at the high viewpoint of Fishcombe Point overlooking Torbay and down into the quiet Churston Cove, a good place for a rest if required. There is an optional diversion from here to Brixham, which has all facilities. This will add about 2.5 kilometres to the walk but allows the walker to visit this working fishing port and the WW2 complex at Battery Gardens.

Continuing through more woodland, we visit the Sacred Grove with its fascinating woodcarvings on the way. Two restored limekilns are seen along the track. A bridleway and short stretch of country lane takes us through the small village of Churston Ferrers. Our walk leads us along leafy tracks and quiet green lanes, with lovely views of Torbay in one direction and over farmland to Dartmoor in the other. We eventually arrive at the village of Galmpton (listed in the Domesday Book). Here you may like to take refreshments at the Manor Inn, before continuing across the common with its old windmill and back down lanes and fields to the start of our journey.
