The walk starts at the small car park in Brookdale Park. It follows a suburban road before dropping down through fields to reach Medlock Vale. It then crosses the River Medlock and the railway line to reach a cycle track. The cycle track is followed through Lumb Clough to reach the start of the Hollinwood Canal (disused and partially filled in). The canal is followed to reach the edge of Brookdale Golf Course. The walk continues across the golf course, recrossing the river, then across some fields to reach a suburban road. There then follows a short stretch along suburban roads to reach the Rochdale Canal. The canal is followed for a short distance before returning to the park along suburban roads. The last stretch is through the park to the start point. This walk is classed as moderate because there are a number of muddy or boggy patches. Although the height gain seems low, there are a number of peaks and troughs and the maximum difference is approximately thirty metres.
