From the car park, walk through woodland to Brown's Folly. From here head downhill through woodland to Bathford, cross the river and walk over fields to reach the Kennet and Avon Canal. A three-mile stretch on the canal towpath takes you to Dundas Aquaduct. Cross and follow the River Avon back on the other side before climbing (steeply at one point). Re-enter the wood for a longish stretch to return to the start.

Varied walk with good views. Although I'm local, I've never seen the stunning view of the American Museum, Stars and Stripes fluttering, on the hill crest across the valley from points 20 to 21. A modernistic new footbridge and foot/cycle path now leads L. from opposite the George and Dragon in Batheaston (straight on for 400 yds instead of L. at point 12)to join the canal towpath at the George Inn at Bathampton. This interesting alternative with 2 pubs extends the walk to 9.6 miles.
