This walk was originally submitted by Brian & Anne Sandland. Walkingworld is very grateful for Sid Marks taking over the walk, June 2021. Walk titles and route directions may have changed since the walk was first published.
From the picturesque parking area at Bulmer Church (well worth a visit) you walk, mainly on field-paths, to the equally picturesque hamlet of Belchamp Walter, with its church and grand hall in an isolated location. After more field-paths and lanes you reach Hill Farm, then continue at an elevated level to pass the location of a former Roman villa in Gestingthorpe, before passing a small settlement at High Houses and then returning to the start point.
Although this is East Anglia there is some climbing and descending. The advantage of this, of course, is that you have greatly enhanced views at a number of points.
The whole walk takes you through a very sparsely populated area and at times you will be at least a mile away from the nearest road in any direction.
