Buntingford - Owles Hall - Alswick Hall - Layston - Buntingford

From a convenient car park in the centre of Buntingford you climb to pass the unusual, castellated Owles Hall, then follow a delightful enclosed track to descend and pass the more conventional Alswick Hall. This was originally built in the 16th Century and extended in the 17th. Major alterations were made to its frontage in the 19th. Farmland tracks and paths then bring you to Layston, which has a church currently being extensively refurbished. From here a short stroll down a pleasant lane brings you back to Buntingford.

At waypoint 2, there is currently (Feb 2020) a new housing development going up in what was the field you cross diagonally. The path temporarily circumvents this to the right but could well change once the building work has been completed.
