The walk begins near the war memorial in Burghclere before heading north out of the village, then turning through woodland near Clere School and emerging in the countryside near Palmers Hill House. The views of the hills are good from here.

Later, the walk passes through the hamlet of Brock's Green before passing through more pleasing countryside and country lanes where the sounds of birdsong are never far away. The route then takes the walker through Arbuthnot Wood before entering the woodland and heathland of Newtown Common, where it turns south.

Another change of scenery follows as the route heads through the woodland of Herbert Plantation before reaching the Ox Drove byway. The walk heads along this before turning back south-east across the fields into Burghclere and the start of the walk. There are plenty of landscapes to take in on the walk.

We thoroughly enjoyed this walk after a visit to the NT Sandham Memorial Chapel. In the first half of the walk there were many places to admire the hue of vast bluebell plantings. The walk is probably the most detailed of those we have followed on WW. I submitted a change about WM 6 but a few steps further on, after I'd submitted it, at the end of the path between fence posts we were greeted by about 15 cows, not dairy ones, who came rapidly towards the fence as we got closer to the gate. We literally had only about 10 yards, if that, to get past them and through another gate but we thought better of it and backtracked to the new gate. We turned left and then took the next left fingerpost and joined up with the walk at WM7.Other than this little adventure the walk was perfect. Hopefully the bullocks won't be there for you. Lovely properties to admire on this walk and great views as well as a lot of animal life.

Walk revisited after heavy rain and comments about mud added. Wording tweaks applied and length of walk amended to 8 miles.

Did this walk on June 26th after a period of sustained rain. The route was boggy in places and quite overgrown. However was a really good walk with diverse scenery and paths. The directions are spot on and very easy to follow. We actually measured the route as close to 8 miles, but it was fairly flat with a couple of small climbs. would have been nice if there was a pub on route!
