This area of Dartmoor never fails to surprise walkers, reminding them of Switzerland with the hillsides covered by fir trees below Sheeps Tor - Dartmoor's bulkiest tor. Farms abandoned by the building of the reservoir in 1898 and then heightened in 1928 lay close to our route, as does the cascading Devonport Leat, which we follow till it drops into the reservoir.
