A satisfying walk that gets the heart pumping up the hill; a shorter two-mile round trip can be achieved if going only as far as the toilets on top of the hill. Look for birds, rabbits, sheep, occasional fox, flowers and fine views of the South Downs. On a good day you can see the Isle of Wight.

My husband and I tried this trail on 05/03/2016 and were very disappointed by the quality of the trail between bullet points 4 and 7 on the printed walk guide the path was very poor and I would go so far as to say the last 2/3 of the walk between these points was almost unnavigable in parts, there were deep ruts( some extremely deep) caused by what we thought was probably motor bikes and the paths were churned into stick clay mud with lots of puddles some stretching the width of the path it was obvious that this path has had no maintenance for quite a while,it was not a pleasant experience and we were glad to get back up to the top of Butser Hill again. When we got home my husband checked the designation of the 'walk' and it shows as a byway open to all traffic, I would suggest that in its present state it is not fit for walkers Ann Briston

At the junction which said it was signposted Ramshill, we couldn't see a signpost. but the picture was fine. Also, the stile 200 yards later has been replaced by a kissing gate. Go through this and take the path to the right, not the less distinct path straight up the hill.

18th June 2005. This is a lovely walk with stunning views at many points. Climbing Butser Hill is quite a challenge but the views make all the effort worthwhile! We chose to use Explorer 120 as it covers the whole walk more easily than the suggested 133 does. Sarah & Ian Lloyd
