A linear walk with one way by bus. This walk uses the pilgrimage route that runs from Sóller to the monastery of Lluc. It starts high and climbs reasonably steadily past the Cúber Reservoir (renowned for its birdlife). At the far end of the reservoir, our walk joins the GR221, the long-distance footpath that runs the length of Mallorca's mountain chain and climbs to the head of the valley, the Coll de L'Ofre. There are views now in all directions.

We now have the option of detouring to the top of L'Ofre (one of Mallorca's highest mountains). This involves a half-hour climb on steep and rocky terrain, along with some scrambling. The views from the top make it all worthwhile, though.

On returning to the Coll de L’Ofre, we start to head downhill, soon leaving the woods and entering the magnificent gorge of Es Barranc. The path here is built from cobbled steps and these soon get tiring on the feet (especially when wet). The dramatic scenery will help take your mind off it however, plus the promise of a cold beer in the bar in Biniaraix, the small village at the bottom.

From here, it's just a short walk back into Sóller.

The best map to use for this walk is the 'Tour & Trail - Mallorca North and Mountains' map (ISBN 978-1899554935).
