Save Our Footpaths - get off the beaten track, this circular walk includes footpaths which are not often used, so careful navigation will be needed. The main feature of the walk is the return along the canal towpath and the boats cruising along it. The outward route is along the footpaths and a longish length of country lane. There are several stiles which are old but in fair order except for the undergrowth and hawthorn partly overgrowing several of them. Except for the yellow direction arrows on the stiles there are few other footpath signs. Most of the route is level and the footpaths cross fields which will be uneven underfoot and may have crops or nosey cows in them, so take a walking stick to fend them off. This walk also includes instructions for walkers from moored canal boats.
It is probably most suitable for older teenagers, senior citizens and anyone in-between. Okay for dogs, although some stiles are not dog friendly, but hopeless for wheelchairs and buggies. Suitable footwear will be stout shoes, but boots will be best, especially in winter when two places may be very boggy. Avoid wearing shorts as in places there are nettles, thistles and brambles to do battle with, and taking some small secateurs would be very useful. The facilities on the route are the food, drinks and sweets at the garage, and the coffee shop at the cheese factory, bench seating at the service station and past the slipway; all near the end of the walk. The coffee shop may also have toilets.
