5m circular route initially crossing Carr Mill Dam via its elegant causeway. The reservoir originally powered a local mill and then fed the Sankey Canal which is clearly visible below current dam wall. After crossing the dam the walk progresses onto open rising farmland leading to Newton Road on the outskirts of Billinge, which has plenty of refreshment options. The Newton Road stretch of the walk offers extensive views over Mersey Plain, Manchester and Cheshire Heights, as does the next farmland section. Having completed the farmland section the route now has a woodland element, leading back to the dam wall end of Carr Mill with good views over reservoir and more refreshment options before brief walk back to start.
