Carsington - Griffe Grange - Ible - Bonsall - Middleton by Wirksworth - Hopton - Carsington

A walk mostly on high ground, though as the walk crosses a steep-sided valley there are some descents and climbs. Most of the walk is along field-paths but there is some road and track walking, mostly on the return, as there are no suitable field-paths to use going in the right direction. Some areas need care to stay on the line of the path; with several paths converging at some points it is easy to miss a stile.

The walk offers some good views at several points, with at least five counties (including Derbyshire) being visible from certain points around the route. Only the section from Ible to Uppertown and the descent through Slaley to the A6012 is within the Peak Park area.

The middle part of the walk in Bonsall has featured in the TV medical Drama 'Peak Practice', which actually used the square where The King's Head pub stands. The pub welcomes walkers (and their boots) offering a good value menu and some real ales; there is an enclosed courtyard accessible through the bar if you prefer to sit outside to eat.

Enjoyed this walk very much with 3 of my friends. The pub in Bonsall was not up to much, but was a good break in the walk. There is a better pub at the end of the walk in Carsington, cheaper food as well. Overall a good walk. My mates said it was one of the best walks I had taken them on.

Superb views for the majority of the walk. Be sure to check if the pub is open as the opening times tend to differ from those listed on the sign outside! As mentioned by the contributor, be sure to have your map & compass handy as the paths can become misleading at some of the waypoints. Overall, well worth a try. Thanks Paul.
