From the hamlet of Casas Nuevas we begin by rambling along the lane and dirt road, part of the GR 252, passing the old house of the curate. We are passing through peaceful countryside full of almond and olive trees and filled with birdsong during spring. We continue our ramble along the way known as Camino de la Vera Cruz until we reach the point where we begin to ascend the foothills of the northern Sierra de Espuña. Soon we begin to enjoy amazing views as we climb and are soon in pine forest. With luck we may catch a glimpse of the emblematic Barbary sheep. Reaching our maximum height of around 658m as we circle the peak Cabezo Tolino( 708m), we begin our descent to rejoin our outward path. Now it is just a simple matter of enjoying the reverse scenery as we head back to Casa Nuevas.
