This is a relatively flat walk in the farming area between Sedgefield and Hartlepool. The terrain includes lanes, fields, wooded gullies and a long section of railway path. This is a walk best suited to the drier months of the year.
From the car park the route heads north-east, following a clear wide dirt track to the farming hamlets of Low Swainston and Embleton, the sites of Medieval villages. Shortly after, the route leaves the track and takes to the fields. Around the halfway point of the walk the route changes direction and heads west, mainly through fields but also includes sorties into a couple of wooded gullies. The last quarter of the walk is an easy flat stroll along a section of the Castle Eden Walkway to return to the car park.
