Easy to understand directions by author and a nice enough walk taking in the Sailing Club which was busy when we passed, a bird lookout hut and Lochmaben Castle. Dog wise, if you like open spaces and letting your dog off lead then this isn't really an ideal walk. Most of it is on quiet country lanes but there is still the odd car going back and forth. Also worth pointing out that between point 6 and 7, there were cows in the field when we did the walk. Thankfully they kept their distance and maybe it's just me but that tends to make me a little uneasy. Further point of note is that at the A709 at Point 4, you need to cross the road and walk right for approx. 20 metres where you will come to a metal kissing gate which takes you along the track mentioned at Point 5. Also, after turning right to walk in the field mentioned at Point 5, it's very muddy and boggy ... it is possible to pick your way through it but for this part of the walk, good walking boots are recommended.
