This is a superb walk starting off in the stunning Peak District village of Castleton. Castleton has all the amenities required for a visit to the Peak District and even has a superb castle overlooking the village and numerous show caves for an enjoyable underground visit!
This walk starts off in the village centre but quickly heads into a deep valley called Cave Dale which offers views back to the nearby Castle and also has numerous caves along its path. The gentle ascent means that you gain height with minimal effort and you quickly arrive at a vast plateau and by following well defined paths you will make your way over to Mam Tor.
Mam Tor is a very recognisable peak overlooking Edale and the Hope Valley and with its Iron Age Fort at its summit, the outline is distinctive. The view is breathtaking and the remainder of the walk offers spectacular views of both the Hope Valley and Edale.
The route follows the ridge path along the top of Back Tor and over to Lose Hill for more breathtaking views. The return contours the hillside for a short way before heading down an old track way back into Castleton.
