This is a very pleasant circular walk in the lovely wood adjacent to Cawdor Castle, near Nairn. There is a guide to four short strolls, available from the castle; this walk takes a wide circle to follow the courses of two broad burns and have a look at their spectacular gorges. The woodland is mainly deciduous, with stately old beeches much in evidence, each with lots of room to show off its grandeur.

The walk is an excellent family one (dogs are discouraged). Paths are good (with one muddy section). The walk can be combined with a visit to the castle (dating from the early 14th Century; you will remember the Thane of Cawdor in Shakespeare's Macbeth). It's open May to October; more info' from www.cawdorcastle.com
