Diezma is known as the mirador of the Sierra Nevada and this route takes you to the best seat in the house. The 3000 metre peaks of the Sierra Nevada, in a line from east to west, snow covered from around November to June make a spectacular backdrop to this walk. Reaching only 1400 metres, this walk is suitable all the year and ideal if the skiing up the mountain is closed, as it was on the day I took theses pictures.
The geology of the area to the east gives rise to curious rock formations [or bad-lands as they say in Spanish], gorges and many troglodyte communities since the time of the moors; there are still some 20,000 people in Guadix living in cave houses, now with all mod cons, the biggest community in Europe.

A very pleasant short walk which we did the first week of November. Great views across to the Sierras, which had early snow glistening in the sun. Easy to find the start and clear directions throughout. There were several other people on the track, so it's probably popular with locals, too. Nothing was open for a snack in the village, so we had to go down to a service station, which was fairly awful food wise. Best take a picnic and not rely on anything being available.

I met a jabalĂ [wild boar] on the path between waymarks 5 and 6 on Saturday 10 January at about 09:30. There are many cabras de montes about but this is only the second time I have seen jabalĂ and never so close.
