The walk starts just outside the wine making village of Menetru-le-Vignoble, going downhill and very soon leaving the surfaced road. After a shady track (round the scant remains of a castle) the path goes down through vines then follows the road for a short distance through the outskirts of Voiteur before following a track along the river Seille.

It then climbs fairly steadily along the vineyard access roads before climbing steeply up a well made path into the historic village of Chateau Chalon perched on its cliff top. The village is well worth exploring. At the lower end of the village you drop slightly to find a well made Roman road which climbs gently up the edge of the cliff to the flatter ground above (premiere plateau).

The next section takes you round the cliff edge to the viewpoint of the Croix de Beaumont above Menetru which has extensive views, reaching through the gap beside the castle at Arlay across the Bresse plain to the slopes of Burgundy on a clear day. There is then a steep descent to Menetru and back to the car.
