Starting off at the bottom of Cheddar Gorge, the walk passes through the village in the direction of the reservoir. It joins the old Strawberry Line, which used to be the main transport link to the area. The line takes you straight into the next village of Axbridge, where the route takes a turn upwards! The next half a mile or so involves the most intense piece of ascent on the whole walk, almost 230m in one go. Once at the top you can admire the lovely views south and also of the quarry next to you. The size is immense and the views down are dramatic.

From the quarry the path turns east and then south-east to a superb viewpoint called The Perch (this is where I saw a huge buzzard, to keep a lookout!) The views extend for miles to the south past Cheddar Reservoir to Nyland Hill and beyond. The last section of the walk enters the woodlands to the south before following country lanes back to the base of the gorge.

This is a lovely walk and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Lovely views from the top. We are all of different fitness and managed the hill. However we found that a few of the photos did not match and that gates mentioned have been taken away, which was a little frustrating.
