The River Churnet runs through North Staffordshire, creating a deep, picturesque valley on its way, containing not only the river but the Caldon Canal and the Churnet Valley Steam Railway. This walk starts from Cheddleton Station and leaves the valley to go up to the village of Ipstones before descending to Consul Forge and the ideally located Black Lion public house. It culminates in a walk back along the valley to the start via the canal, or maybe a train ride instead.

We did this lovely walk in Nov 18, All the instructions are clear & concise - we never went wrong once. Cheddleton station is a lovely preserved station to start the walk which offered a variety of lovely scenery throughout. The 'Marquis of Granby' pub at point 11 didn't open Saturday afternoon however "The Old Red Lion" 50 yards further on the route was most welcoming with good beers enjoyed. The 'Black Lion' pub at point 14 has a fantastic setting and was very popular with a lovely setting, whilst the baskets of chips were huge. A most enjoyable walk indeed.
