This is a lovely walk starting in Chelmsford, England's newest city, in the heart of Essex where you can browse the large array of indoor and outdoor shops either before the walk or after. You then follow a lovely stretch along the River Chelmer before passing through a few villages, where in Galleywood you pass at least three pubs before arriving at Hylands Estate and Park. This is a beautiful area to explore with the magnificent Hylands House within the grounds and there is also a cafe and toilets in the park. From there you pass through Writtle with its excellent chip shop and another park before returning to Chelmsford city centre.

All roads walked on the route had roadside footpaths so it is ideal for children and dogs too.

The route through Hylands Park follows tarmac paths, but if you prefer you can choose any route here as long as you head for the main entrance, where you exit the park to continue the walk.

If coming by car, there is a free car park at the main entrance to Hylands Park and you can start the walk there (Waymark 27).
