Chester and the Dee

The walk goes through mainly pedestrianised streets, then through a lovely stretch of woodland before the river is reached. The walk along the Dee is quite open and gives fine views of the city as you approach it, but the main interest is in the houses, rowing clubs and river activity, especially in summertime.

Nice walk with lots to see. Scenic and interesting. There is also a free bus service from the Railway station to the City Centre.

Without our GPS we would have completely missed the ladder style at waymarks 7/8. It is so overgrown that it is hidden in the hedge and is clearly not used anymore; likewise the red markers were hidden in the undergrowth. However the path into the woods is easy enough to find. Regarding Jim Grindle's remarks about the railway station at Chester, we didn't buy refreshments there but the toilets are certainly free now.

The red markers referred to in steps 7/8 are pretty difficult to see now. The area is quite overgrown and the stile doesn't look like it's been used for some time.
