Child Okeford - Hanford House - Wessex Ridgeway - Shillingstone
Child Okeford and Shillingstone are twin villages each at the foot of high downs on either side of the River Stour. The paths connecting them must have had immense use in earlier times and the same paths are there for use on the present walk.
You pass by Hanford House and can get some idea of its splendour, cross the river and see something of Shillingstone. The walking is easy on the whole and one of its main pleasures is to amble along in a delightful, ever-changing landscape. Always there are the backdrops of Hambledon Hill beside Child Okeford and Shillingstone Hill, the other high downland behind Shillingstone and the lazy winding river in between. This is Dorset at its best.
This walk was originated by Colin Campbell. Walkingworld would like to say a big thank you to Colin for all his superb contributions to the website over the years.
