From the Black Dog Inn (currently closed) you will follow the long and gentle uphill road to the Monarch's Way Ox Drove and then walk westwards with great views over rolling farmland. The walk then turns southwards to go through the village of Fonthill Bishop and along the long Fonthill Lake, where you will usually see swans, ducks, herons and many other waterfowl. Turn eastwards at the southern end of the lake and walk through woods and across open farmland within viewing range of Fonthill House, before returning to Chilmark.

The section on the A 303 was not pleasant and felt slightly dangerous as you had to walk on the road surface as the verge was too over grown The Monarch way section between the hedges is extremely overgrown and full of nettles/ thistles. 2 adults just made to through but it would have been very difficult for young people Worth noting that apart from two points above this was a truly lovely walk with amazing, changing scenery. One suggested amend or option would be to include the Beckwith Arms and a revised route down to the weir at the end of the foothill lake. We went there as we wanted a short break 2/3 of the way round. It was very pleasant
