This is a gentler walk than most from Chipping, which head for the wilder fells of southern Bowland. It is a quiet perambulation through fields full of grazing sheep and all the time there are views of Longridge Fell and Bowland, with glimpses of Pendle Hill. The route is generally well-signposted and with one exception, the stiles and gates are in good order - I did the walk in summer and my boots were cleaner when I came back than when I started out! This may be partly because the walk doesn't go through a single working farm; without exception they have been sold and done up, although in the text I still call them farms.

Walked this again August 2017. At waymark 8 there was a sign that it is no longer a suitable route for horses but walkers could manage it with care. The reason - the bank had completed given way with flooding. We proceeded but were very near the edge, thankfully only for a few yards till we reached the footbridge. However no change of a picnic here this time (see my previous comment!). At waymark 18 the footbridge had gone, again with flooding but we managed to ford the stream. Not an easy walk this time, though!

Lovely walk in one of our favourite areas. We stopped for our picnic at waymark 8 and there wasn't a sound apart from the brook rippling and the birds singing! Unlike when Jim walked it, though, there was quite a bit of mud around!
