Every section of this walk, which is to the north of Chipping, is somewhere in other walks that I have put on the Walkingworld website, sometimes in a different direction. The difference is that this was a deliberate attempt to avoid sinking into the ground on a day of bad weather when the ground was already saturated. It includes some short lane sections and many farm tracks, some of which have been surfaced in recent years as derelict barns and farms were converted. If you really don't like hard surfaces (and I normally would avoid them as far as possible) then this walk is not for you. However, it does not cross a single field or stile and although some of the tracks were waterlogged, it turned an unenjoyable slog through winter mud into a good day out. The walk goes quite close under the Bowland Fells and has good views, Longridge Fell and Pendle Hill being particularly prominent.
