From the huge car park in Chopwell Wood the route heads south past the small hamlet of Forestry Commision buildings to emerge from the wood and arrive at the picturesque little hamlet of Lintzford lying snugly in a crook in the River Derwent. The route then rises through woods to intersect the very pleasant Derwent Way railway walk. After a picturesque section of railway walk the route heads north to intersect the beautifully preserved Derwentcote Steel Furnace Museum before re-crossing the River Derwent and ascending steeply through the western side of Chopwell Wood making a minor detour on the way to view the remains of the Old Tubways, a relic of the coal mining heritage of the wood. The walk then briefly leaves the wood to continue the ascent up to the highest point of the walk alongside Garesfield Golf Club before heading east back through the northern fringe of the wood to re-intersect the public access road at Hooker Gate for the final walk back to the car park.
