This walk starts in the beautiful village of Slaidburn, at the heart of the Trough of Bowland. The walk takes you along the banks of the River Hodder and its valley before turning into Newton Village and out across rambling meadows and fields. The walk rarely touches a road, giving the walker only the sounds of the countryside. It's an easy walk with great views.

Walked August 2020. Pleasant walk along the river and surrounding pastures. NOTE: mobile phone signals around the area are either poor or non-existent so if you need to download any GPS data do so well before you arrive! There is a small cafe next to the main car park for light meals, coffee etc. Parking for 4 hours at the time of this review was £1.60. Easy to follow route but NOTE: WP2 - the area around the water treatment works has been cleared of trees and fenced off. Just follow the new fencing around to the right away from the river, through the metal gate and back round towards the river.

A beautiful walk, with truly hardly any road at all. However, there aren't many paths either, and you are often walking across grass fields - which can be very wet (my feet were soaked despite doing the walk after a long dry spell); some patches were even quite boggy. A couple of fields had rather inquisitive/intimidating cattle in them. For that reason I would not recommend taking a dog on this walk. Also do bear in mind the large number of styles to be got over - my basset had to be pushed and pulled quite a few times! Really nice walk though...
