Clam Oak - Tamar Valley - Bere Alston - Bere Ferrers - Clam Oak

This walk offers a variety of views of the River Tamar, both close alongside the river and from the hills overlooking it. The area is noted for its industrial archaeology. 130 years ago, it was one of the most vibrant mining areas in all Britain, with thousands of miners hacking out a living below ground.

The walk starts at Clam Oak and takes you upstream to Weir Quay, Hole's Hole, over a hill and down to the Tamar again, with good views from the high point.

The route then swings away from the river and up to near Bere Alston, before heading west back along high ground to the top of a hill above the starting point. The route descends to the Tamar again, now south of Clam Oak and down opposite to Cargreen on the opposite bank, in Cornwall.

The route then swings back to the other village on the Bere peninsula - Bere Ferrers - before the final section along a quiet country road for the return to Clam Oak, alongside the Tamar and the car park area.

Very enjoyable walk with excellent views. Missed the last mile or so as my 5 year old son was getting tired but walk was very good for him too. Excellent directions, thanks for very enjoyable walk.
