Clayton Windmills (Jack and Jill) - Lower Standean - Ditchling Beacon Circular
Start at the two windmills above Clayton. This is the village where Raymond Briggs' Snowman and Father Christmas come from. There is a pub on the A23 just north of Mill Lane selling food and offering B&B (The Jack and Jill). Descend to walk along a dry valley, a typical feature of the chalk downs.
Up again to Ditchling Beacon, a popular local viewpoint, then walk along the South Downs Way back to the windmills, with fine views of the Sussex Weald and a dew-pond on the way.
