Cley Marshes is a haven for a huge variety of wildlife, of which it is particularly famous for its birdlife. This walk completes a full circuit of Cley Marshes along public footpaths nearly all the way and also passes right by Cley Mill. The mill has been beautifully restored and is now a B&B.

After Cley Mill there is a section of walking along a raised bank, offering lovely views over the marshes before arriving at the North Sea. The views down the coastline are dramatic and lovely. After following the stony beach for just over a kilometre the route heads back into the marshes. Do remember to take some binoculars with you! The nature reserve is one of the most important in Europe!

Unfortunately there is an entry fee if you are wanting to explore deeper into the marshes, where you will find several bird hides overlooking small lakes, though this is not required to complete the walk. The visitor centre just along the Coast Road is also worth stopping in, with a giftshop and optics centre with telescopes and cameras pointing to the marshes, plus a cafe. As of December 2012 the price for entering the reserve was £4.50pp.

Completed this fabulous walk on 17 June. Considering its a short 3.4 miles there really is so much to take in, Cley and its windmill, the marshes and its bird life plus of course the majesty of the North Sea, easily one of the great Norfolk short walks. Only downside was not being able to enjoy the Cley Visitor Centre due to ongoing lockdown, I will be back in due course.
