The peaceful setting of the River Avon is part of the appeal of this walk in the lovely area of Stratford-upon-Avon. Beginning at the village of Clifford Chambers, a fine bridleway takes the route through wonderful countryside, passing several farms and crossing the Monarch's Way to reach the river. The Avon Valley Footpath follows the course of the river with all its tranquil aspects and leaves it for a short duration on the edge of fields, rejoining it near the Stratford-upon-Avon Racecourse. We leave it on the edge of Stratford-upon-Avon, but a good alternative would be to walk straight on to visit this famous, historic town, before retracing steps to continue the route. Field-paths take the route past the Shire Horse Centre, which is open to the public from March to September, then on past a mill house on the River Stour. The final part of the walk in Clifford Chambers is a super ending to add to a very enjoyable experience, a village of fine character dwellings, pleasing to the eye.
