The walk starts and finishes in the heart of Cockermouth where shops, cafes and restaurants are aplenty. There are also lots of pubs nearby and one (The Bitter End), around 200 yards away from the finishing point, even has its own brewery built-in!!! So why not reward yourself at the end of the walk and try a local pint.
The walk starts by crossing a bridge over the clear waters of the River Cocker and you continue along the river for most of the walk, where you have chance to spot fishing birds like the kingfisher, heron and dipper. When you leave the riverside you have a short journey heading back into the town over Simonscale Bridge which crosses the A66 and walking on the outskirts of a housing estate, you descend back to the river.
Return along the other side of the river and on through a wooded area until you reach the old railway line which has been rejuvenated for walkers. Take care walking down the steps next to the railway bridge and rejoin the path to return to the car park. If you still have the energy, why not have a wander across Market Place to look around Jennings Brewery?
