A beautiful circular walk through the Essex countryside starting in the pretty town of Coggeshall. After passing through the town with it's unique properties and a few shops, you reach the countryside.
After crossing the A120, the walk is so peaceful as you walk through fields, pass through a few beautiful properties and beside woodland before reaching Markshall Estate. There are some lovely paths through woodland here as you circle around the deer park and pass through it's wedding venue area, and then with a slight detour, you can visit the beautiful gardens and the visitor centre. You can start the walk here (waymark 18) but there is a charge if you use their car park.
Some of the paths between waymarks 7 and 9 are through arable fields with very tall crops, fine when it's dry, but after a drop of rain you may get slightly wet. Apart from a tiny enclosed overgrown path at Cradle House, all the other paths are fine (June 2023).
For refreshments you have The Woolpack Inn and a few other places at the start of the walk, and if you choose to visit the gardens and the visitor centre at Markshall Estate, there is a cafe here serving hot and cold drinks, lunches, homemade cakes and delicious cream teas.
This is a perfect family walk with plenty of places to sit and have a picnic along the way.
