About two-thirds of this walk is on easy high-level tracks with wonderful views over the Churn Valley and the hills beyond. There is some ascent and descent, but almost all of it is gentle and easy. The final section is a level route just above the valley bottom, followed by a climb up through fields with more lovely views to reach the starting point.
Starting from the hills above Colesbourne, the walk goes along a tree-lined ridge. About two-thirds of the way along is a bench overlooking the valley, a great place for a picnic. Eventually the path reaches a small woodland area which is good for birds, before arriving at the road near the ancient and charming hamlet of Upper Coberley. After walking through this remote hamlet with its traditional stone houses and barns, we traverse the open hillside with magnificent, panoramic views, providing another opportunity for a picnic. The track eventually descends and we cross the main road and climb uphill for a short distance to reach a no-through-road. The route from here to Colesbourne is along quiet roads and through fields, reaching the main road at The Colesbourne Inn, a convenient resting place for lunch or a drink. The final climb uphill through fields is followed by a level walk through woodland back to the car.
