The OS maps do not show many possibilities around this area, but the addition of several permissive paths have created a network of routes around Colkirk. Essentially, this walk sweeps around the village in a clockwise arc and down to the neighbouring community of Whissonsett, before heading back via the deserted village of Oxwick. Only the ruined church and a couple of cottages remain now.

The early part of the walk is fairly much devoid of waymarks, so take care with navigation, though the paths are generally well-used by local dog-walkers, so clear enough on the ground. Note that there are no opportunities for refreshment en route, the pub marked at Whissonsett on the map having closed recently. There is a pub, The Crown, at Colkirk with good food and an open fire.

The Permissive path at point 5 appears to no longer be active. There is a sign prohibiting access to the field margins. The alternative route along the road itself is very dangerous.

Thanks for the comments. Length of walk does check out as 7.5 miles (12 km)on both handheld gps track and on the OS50 map. Gps units can vary depending on the settings, though.

If you like walking under big skies and in complete solitude this walk may well suit you. There is not a great deal to see bar the magnificent ruin at Oxwick, a must if you are interested in 14th century church architecture and history. The views of Fakenham are very good as well, best long distant view of my town without a doubt. All instructions still hold but I would suggest the length of the walk is much nearer 10 miles than 7.5.
