The walk starts at Colyton, a charming ancient Devon town, which still feels set back in time. After an initial section alongside the River Coly, a tributary of the Axe, the route climbs gradually through woodland, giving fine distant countryside views. Descending into Beer, an attractive small coastal town, there are good views along the Jurassic Coast. From Beer, the route follows the South West Coast Path to Seaton, and along The Esplanade to the Seaton Tramway. This is a narrow gauge electric tramway which operates over the route of a former British Railways branch line. The 3 mile route runs through the Axe Valley past two nature reserves, giving an excellent view of the abundant wading bird life.

Point 16. 'Unmetalled road' sign absent. A better description would be 'just before cattle grid, bear right up rocky track'.
