From the pretty fairy-tale church in Combrook to the village of Lighthorne, this country walk is completely rural, through Warwickshire farmland.

The scenes are far-reaching and marvellous, with a good view of Compton Verney from the bridleway above it. It is an area that is thickly wooded - a coppice, spinney or covert is never far away and the sight of a deer darting away is not unusual.

Passing isolated farms and over arable fields and pasture meadows, crossing streams and alongside pools and lakes, the route is peaceful, varied and lovely; and the woodland path on the way back to Combrook adds that extra bit of delight to an escape into green and pleasant tranquillity.

I did this walk last weekend. The plantation around point 15 is now a bit overgrown and the path out of it near point 16 is easily missed. Turn back if you come to the stream. Also the path between points 18 and 19 has disappeared, and I had to work my way round the edge of the field. But these were minor inconveniences on a splendid walk with fine views of Compton Verney.

Really enjoyed this walk on 17.11.13. We started the walk from Lighthorne (nearer for us) and were lucky to see deer in the plantation at point 14. Picturesque views around Compton Verney and Combrook were enhanced by stunning autumn colours. Superb! Thanks, Noel and Lesley.

A wonderful walk. The route descriptions were perfect except for one field where the rape was too thick to walk through. Thank you Ron and Jenny

A most enjoyable walk on 14.1.12., especially around Compton Verney, but parking at Combrook is not a good idea. It is a small hamlet with barely enough parking for the residents and a couple of awkward dead ends. There is ample good parking between points 7 and 8, and around point 19.

excellent walk, combrook is lovely and compton verney is a stunning country house situated on a beautiful lake. we were privileged enough to see two doe deer just after instruction 18 where you pass between two tall wooden gates, only about 25 feet away!! a brilliant circular walk with just about everything that you could want from a stroll in the country. thank you. Lee
