This is a walk with great views and offers all the charm of typical Andalucian villages. You start off in the main square of Competa where there are several café bars and the church. They have just built an arch to the right of the church, through which they have built into the church wall murals depicting the history of Competa from the days of the Moors until today.
You can then walk through the narrow street Cala Toledo to Plaza de la Vendima, where the Noche del Vino (Night of the Wine) is celebrated in August. It is a celebration of the first grapes to be picked for that year. The first grapes are crushed on a stage that is designed to filter the juice into a barrel, then the celebrations start and last all night. When you get above the football pitch the views are stunning for about 1.5km. On a clear day you can see the Rock of Gibraltar and on a really clear day you can see the mountains of North Africa. Walking into Canillas you can see the Moorish church and there are cafés and bars in the village.
Coming back along the terraces you will be able to view the local produce in the market gardens on the terraces, much of which is sold to the local hotels and restaurants. Near the end of the terrace you will pass a builder's yard on the left where two ostrich live; if not, they too will be on the local menu!
