Starting in the picturesque village of Dedham, this circular walk will use sections of two long-distance paths (Essex Way and St Edmund Way). The views are glorious throughout this route especially over the valley known as Dedham Vale. The walk mainly consists of field-paths, a few quiet lanes and a lovely stretch beside the River Stour through Flatford. At Flatford Mill there is a lovely tea shop and cafe that has seating beside the river. There are also refreshments available in Dedham via a couple of pubs and tea rooms.

The Dedham Art and Craft Centre is also worth a visit, housed in a converted church. The Centre exudes historic charm and is the perfect place to visit, shop and eat. Three floors showcase the work of more than sixty artisans and the inspired buying skills of specialist retailers is a paradise to explore for the casual browser and enthusiastic shopper.

All paths are clear and well-marked and along with various places to visit makes this an ideal family day out.
