This walk starts from one delightful village and visits two others, as well as using sections of the complex Chain Walk and a section of track along the route of an old Roman road. The village of Ardeley figures on the front cover of the OS Explorer map for the area.

I did this walk yesterday, and unfortunately not the best I have done, the footpaths are extremly overgrown, I had to beat a path with my sticks.. the directions are not that clear either which did result in several detours. Also there isn't really safe parking either. Saying that some parts of the walk are extremly beautiful.

The very beginning of this walk is a bit dangerous as you must walk round one of the main roads out of Cottered, watch the bends as the drivers will not see you. Once you leave the road the first part of the walk has a lot of nettles so be careful.

I did this walk on 17/12/06. It's a pretty walk and very easy for a winter's day but be warned - it is extremely muddy for long stretches. Some of the trackes used are, when wet, shallow streams draining into ditches and the enclosed path at waymark 12 is ankle deep in water and mud, with no alternative route around because it is barb-wire fenced on both sides. Thankfully this soaking is within yards of the end of the walk!
