Starting from the car park by the A86, an easy walk on a waymarked trail leads into Coire Ardair, passing the visitor centre and toilets on the way. After 2km a rough track branches right and climbs quite steeply up the shoulder, passing Na Cnapanan and on to the ridge to reach the first Munro, Carn Liath at 1,006 metres.

Most of the hard work is now done and a 5km ridge walk along the northern rim of Coire Ardair leads to the second Munro, Stob Poite Coire Ardair at 1,053 metres. There are great views across the corrie to the impressive crags towering above the tiny lochan 400 metres below. A line of old fenceposts leads down to The Window, a steep-sided notch in the ridge. From The Window a steep climb on grassy slopes leads up to the plateau, passing Mad Meg's Cairn and on to the summit of Creag Meagaidh at 1,130 metres, Number 30 in the Munro charts.

The route then returns east across the domed plateau and continues the circuit around the southern rim of Coire Ardair. A long descent over open grass and heather slopes joins a vehicle track leading back to the car park.
