The walk takes you from the car park at Aberarder to the beautiful, cliff-ringed lake of Lochan A'Choire. This is a fantastic picnic spot and the route to here is an out and back 'Easy Walk' without the need for hill skills. Beyond the lochan the walk changes character, becoming a full-on mountain challenge with a steep ascent of The Window taking you to the extensive summit plateau, a walk that will hopefully reward you both with views and a sense of achievement.
Creag Meagaidh is a serious mountain; in bad visibility micro navigation skills will be essential. The crags and cliffs mean that in bad visibility the mountain is potentially highly dangerous. In winter, full winter equipment will be needed and you should also be aware of the dangers of cornices. Walking Creag Megaidh in anything other than good weather is for experienced hill-walkers only. Weather conditions can change quickly in the high mountains.
