This linear walk is entirely along metalled or tarmacked paths and lanes. The first part to Stronord and Kirroughtree is undemanding, following the course of the old railway that used to run between Dumfries and Stranraer. After Stronord there is a hill to climb and descend. There is a duck-out point to the main road at Palnure and buses serve both ends and several points between. Refreshments are available at the end and at Kirroughtree Visitor Centre, close off-route.
